June 12, 2009 3:25 p.m.

Nicole's sister Shelly, her dad Mike, and I (mom) are sitting in Nicole's ICU room watching her "sleep."  She has 2 great nurses and the "fellow" has been great also.
For the first hour in ICU Nicole was in a lot of pain and they were trying to figure out how much pain meds to give her.
It was explained to me that there are 2 types of pain that she will experience.  One is muscle spasms in her back.  Now that her spine has been straightened, some muscles are loose that used to be tight and some are tight that used to be loose.  For that they give valium by injection.
The other pain is from the incision which is  a sharp needle-like pain.  For that they give morphine using a PCA pump.  Nicole cannot yet describe what her pain feels like so they are giving her both.
I think she looks great, beautiful as ever.

  2. So happy to hear that she's done and has made it through all well! I hope that they can continue to control her pain too. That's going to be the hard part. Thanks so much for updating!!

  3. I just learned about this a day or so ago, and I'm glad to hear that Nicole is on the road to recovery; it may be hard and long, but I'm sure she'll make it through this alright.

The whole Mammoser family will be in my prayers.
